I was looking for feedback rules for writing papers, and came across this post. It's great! I really appreciated how you gave examples along with your rules. "When you sneeze in my face..." It really helped me connect what you were saying to my own life. I would love to make everyone on staff read this before the school year starts.

Many good points, I especially like number 6. What I would personally really need is a way of making people give me more negative feedback to my face, but people seem to be so scared of criticizing each other (or at least me) in the workplace. I have sometimes succeeded in provoking people into telling me what they really think, but in most cases this fails and can even have an discouraging effect. Asking for feedback may work well when you are acting as a teacher but it does not really come natural in an everyday software development situation.

A good soundtrack for this blog post might be "That's a Nice Way to Give Me Feedback" by Minilogue.
