I’ve had a number of injuries in my life. Most of them related to sports. So, a number of physioterapists and orthopedic doctors have examined me. And what happens time and again is that I have an ache somewhere, and when they start palpating me, they immediately find the spot that’s causing me pain. A spot that I can’t find myself, but somehow they find it straight away. I don’t know if it’s their training or if it’s due to experience, but I know they know something I don’t.
I had the same feeling reading Michael Feathers post about the sealed concept in .NET. For the longest time, I’ve had this nagging irritation about it. I never use it myself, and I don’t like it when colleagues do, but I didn’t know how to express my dislike, or even really why I don’t like it. Along comes mr Feathers and touches the hurting spot, and shows me what I was thinking all along.
